Kanika Jackson, Ph.D. (she/her) is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Towson University (TU), where she is also the Director of the Public Communication Center (PCC). She also launched and coordinates the Communication Studies Alumni Mentorship Program, where current undergraduates are mentored by graduates from the major. Kanika is also the faculty chair for the Black Faculty and Staff Association. Additionally, she is one of several faculty mentors for Ujima, a collective of student organizations dedicated to educating and uplifting students who identify as part of the African Diaspora. Dr. Jackson has a bachelor鈥檚 degree in communications/public relations from California State University, Fullerton and a master鈥檚 degree in communication studies from Wayne State University in Detroit. Kanika鈥檚 research interests include Black English and code switching, and Black interpersonal experiences in the US. Kanika earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Morgan State University in May 2025. Her interdisciplinary dissertation combined interpersonal communication and higher education administration scholarship and was titled, "It Has Everything to do with Race! Exploring How Black Alumni Narratives Can Inform Black Undergraduate Experiences at a Historically White Institution."
